Milk Interprofessional Organization and Product Board

Introduction

The interbranch organizations organized in each sector play an important role in the market regulation of the sectors, within the institutional system of the European Union’s agricultural markets.

The interbranch organization recognized by the given Member State brings together the actors (producers, traders and/or processors) on the different vertical levels of each sector operating in the given country (or region) with the primary purpose of promoting the improvement of the production (sustainable production methods) and distribution of the products, facilitating the information flow between the market actors and thus increasing market transparency by implementing a kind of sectoral self-regulation.

As a result of the liberalization of certain sectors the Member State and EU market regulation instruments have been reduced, however the Common Agricultural Policy provides a major role for the grassroots sectoral, interbranch self-regulation operating on the principle of open membership, implemented within certain sectors. This self-regulation is designed to be implemented by the interbranch organizations. The facilitation and strengthening of the implementation of the interbranch organizations has a significant importance in order to have an effective market regulation operating in each sector.

The creation and operation of the Milk Interprofessional Organization and Product Board and the sectoral self-regulatory activity implemented through it could facilitate the domestic sectoral interest conciliation and significantly contribute to the professional and legislative activities of the government. Our interprofessional organization is a forum for domestic sectoral interest conciliation, it brings the producers, processors and traders closer together.

The Milk Product Board was created in 1992. Recognized by the Minister of Agriculture, the Milk Product Board has been acting as a representative interbranch organization since 2013.

Within the domestic dairy industry the Milk Interprofessional Organization and Product Board has 72% coverage in respect of raw material production (sales), almost 95% in respect of purchased milk while it has 70% coverage in respect of retail.
